The Business Case for Public Relations
The Business Case for Public Relations is a new advocacy driven initiative for PRSA. The goal of the initiative, per PRSA, is “to drive industry recognition and growth by helping professionals in the field educate key audience about public relations’ role and outcomes, demonstrate its strategic value and enhance its reputation.”

While still a work in progress, the Business Case will help practitioners by providing tools and resources that will help explain the outcomes, roles and values of public relations.

PRSA's Advocacy Initiative
PRSA’s Advocacy initiative is an ongoing Public Affairs program by which PRSA tracks, identifies and speaks out on important public and professional policy matters on the federal, state and local level. The program is led by the PRSA Advocacy Advisory Board (AAB), which was established in response to strong interest expressed by members to have the Society engage in advocacy for the profession

The mission of the Advocacy Board is “to advance the public relations profession by demonstrating a leadership role of practitioners within the profession and in the global community by sounding a clear, consistent PRSA voice on important issues of our time. By engaging both internal and external audiences, the Advocacy Advisory Board strives not only to enhance awareness of the important role public relations plays in a free society but also to make significant contributions to public discourse on issues that affect the profession directly and those that impact free and open communications around the globe.”

From the beginning, the Committee set the tone for the kind of leadership it would provide. In 2008, the AAB further refined the process and procedures by which it pursues its mission, clarifying its two-pronged role – taking a proactive stance on a central annual theme, such as respectful election communication, and taking action reactively to current issues such as legislative and regulatory proposals and breaking news impacting public relations practice and communications ethics.
