Krista Heinicke – Director of Public Relations, The Broadmoor
Her familiarity with The Broadmoor and the community extends thirty-nine years when, in 1984, she came to Colorado Springs to train for ice dancing at the original Broadmoor World Arena. As a graduate of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Her career in Public Relations spans restaurant ownership, working with Morgan Freeman, representing Jeff Dunham and securing Colorado Springs clients in the Wall Street Journal and other national titles. She joined The Broadmoor officially in 2009 and continues bolstering the brand she loves.
Vanessa Zink, Chief Communications Officer for the City of Colorado Springs – Olympic City USA
Vanessa has more than a decade of experience in marketing and communications. Prior to leading a full-service communications team at the City of Colorado Springs, she served in various roles at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and the U.S. Golf Association, where she served media at major events, including three Olympic Games and several USGA Championships. The part of the PR industry that brings her the most joy is finding and sharing compelling, impactful stories. She is a passionate sports enthusiast and former college athlete who now gets her exercise by chasing around her three young kids, ages 6, 4 and 1.
Caitlin Johnson, principal partner, Handlebar PR
Handlebar PR is an award-winning boutique travel public relations agency specializing in media relations and strategic communications. Principal Partner Caitlin Johnson brings nearly 20 years of public relations, marketing and communications experience to the Handlebar team. She guides public relations strategy for her clients including the Colorado Tourism Office, driving story coverage in key publications and serving as a liaison between the CTO and the many industry partners across Colorado.
On a day-to-day basis, you can find Caitie hard at work pitching top-tier national editors and freelance writers for feature story opportunities, planning story-generating press trips, coordinating memorable events, working closely with clients and industry partners to bring their stories to life, writing compelling press releases and staying on top of industry trends and best practices.
After hours, Caitie spends time in the kitchen-- entertaining family and friends, satisfying her wanderlust traveling with her husband and two girls, catching a concert at a favorite venue and spinning her heart out at SoulCycle.
Alexea Veneracion, Director of Communications at Visit Colorado Springs
Alexea is a Hoosier turned Colorado gal. She started her career at a PR agency before diving headfirst into all things tourism. Her proudest tourism achievements so far are being recognized in Destination International’s 2022 30 Under 30 program and being awarded the first-ever “Rising Tourism Star” from the Colorado Tourism Office. Outside of work you can find her hiking to the summit of her favorite trail Mt. Muscoco.
Sandy Elliott, Parks Operations Administrator at Pikes Peak - America's Mountain
Sandy has thirteen years of experience on Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain as the Parks Operations Administrator and a project manager during the design and construction of the Pikes Peak Summit Complex project. She is an ambassador for tourism in the Pikes Peak Region and an advocate for sustainable and responsible tourism including Leave No Trace initiative, promotion of sustainable products in the gift shops and creating the “Road to Sustainability” education series about the mountain’s journey toward sustainability. Sandy serves as the past president and current board member for the Pikes Peak Region Attractions, an association of 29 family friendly attractions located across three Colorado counties.
