President Sends: September 2017 Good morning! I hope your Friday is going well. The rain is scheduled to end tomorrow. We're thankful, but we can’t wait to see the mountains. Now - I have several things I want to share with you!
As you know, September has been ethics month for PRSA. There are a few things in our profession that are non-negotiable: trust and ethics. In the past year, we have seen extra scrutiny regarding these two topics. Once a PR professional’s ethical standards and trust or in doubt… he or she practically becomes ineffective till restored. This could take a while or restoration may not be achieved if legal barriers exist. So, please consider doing the “hard ethical right” instead of an “easy and disastrous ethical wrong.” It will save you in the long run. If you ever need a second opinion on ethics, please contact anyone on our board, to include our Ethics Chair, Janet Stevens, APR. Regarding ethics… everyone could use a second opinion. Question… Do you know the No. 1 event throughout the whole year? According to our survey… it’s our Annual Professional Development Workshop! We are going to have some dynamic and informative speakers. You will LEARN A LOT! And NETWORK! Our National Chair Jane Dvorak, APR, Fellow PRSA will keynote at lunch. We will conduct a deep dive into the PRSA’s 4-step planning process from advanced PR pros. Breakfast and lunch will be served. The affordable prices may shock you - visit our 2017 Workshop website page to learn more. See you there! Let’s “Plug In” and “Power Up Our PR!” Next, I'm honored to announce that School Communications Director Allison Cortez received our “Caught in the Act of PR Excellence” Award at our recent luncheon. In less than one year, she has remarkably changed the PR landscape at her school district – while in some very challenging circumstances. Allison also presented on crisis communications lessons learned at our August luncheon. Thank you! Allison, we salute you for your outstanding public relations work. Finally, next Friday morning our chapter will host a networking PR breakfast at Building 3 Coffee for only $5.00. Yes! Five dollars. The board and I wanted to offer different times and costs for events. We have had breakfast, lunch and evening events. We understand not everyone can attend certain events due to time are cost constraints. Please join us this next Friday from 7 to 9 a.m. at Building 3 Coffee on North Nevada. And one more thing… in the near future, we will announce the recipient of our Fred Morgan New PR Professional Membership Scholarship! We are simply thrilled about this announcement. Stay tuned! Email [email protected] to RSVP for either the Oct. 25 Workshop or the Oct. 6 Breakfast. Thank you for being part of our Pikes Peak PR family! An Honor to Serve, JP Arnold, APR President, Pikes Peak PRSA Communications Manager, AspenPointe Retired Army PAO
